The Problem

MEZNSAT is a nanosatellite mission focused on greenhouse gas monitoring. The ground station needed reliable control software for satellite communication, telemetry processing, and mission data management. Software failures meant lost data from orbital passes that don't repeat on convenient schedules.

The Approach

I led development of the satellite ground station control software — handling telemetry ingestion, pass scheduling, data processing pipelines, and the operator interface. Simultaneously managed the software development lifecycle for a Smart City Lighting IoT platform, coordinating with hardware engineers on sensor integration.

Key Technical Decisions

  • 01Real-time data processing pipeline for telemetry with strict reliability requirements
  • 02Operator dashboard designed for time-critical satellite pass windows
  • 03Cross-departmental coordination between software, hardware, and research teams
  • 04Parallel IoT device management layer for Smart City platform

The Outcome

Reliable ground station operations supporting an active satellite mission. The software handled real-time telemetry from orbit — not a simulation, not a proof-of-concept. When the satellite passes overhead, the software either works in the 10-minute window or the data is gone.
